Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a specialized branch of the dental profession that is dedicated to the treatment of malocclusion (imperfect relation and position of teeth). The first step is for the Orthodontist to diagnose the specific characteristics of a patient’s malocclusion and to devise a treatment plan that addresses these along with the needs of the patient. The treatment may be aimed at moving teeth, modifying growth or correction of disproportionate jaw relations.

Visit our clinic for a consultation and take the first step to a beautiful smile. The first visit is a fact finding exercise and it will give you an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the practice and staff.

The Orthodontist will assess your malocclusion by looking at your teeth, smile and facial appearance. The Orthodontist will also examine the cleanliness and health of your teeth. Photographs and x-rays may either be taken on this appointment or otherwise scheduled for a second visit.

The Orthodontist may explain:

  • How your teeth are different from an ideal teeth.
  • Treatment benefit and the best timing for it to begin.
  • The different treatment techniques possible.
  • The duration of treatment.
  • Any cost that may be involved.

Please note that you will not be offered Orthodontic treatment unless your teeth are healthy, and your oral hygiene is satisfactory.

Braces are used to reposition and realign teeth to create a beautiful and desirable smile. They are either fixed to the teeth or are otherwise removable. We offer a wide range of braces to suit everyone’s needs. You may prefer discrete, invisible, or removable braces. Whatever your preference we can advise you regarding the type of brace that is most suitable for your teeth. Our Orthodontists are experienced and the braces that we offer are modern and efficient.

BECAUSE EVERY BIT IS UNIQUE

Whether a fixed brace or a loose splint is used, whether it is a short-term treatment or a concept takes effect over several months – at GREEN HEALTH DENTAL CLINIC we advise children, adolescents and adults individually. This involves both aesthetics and, in particular, the function of the teeth. An optimal set of teeth brings joy of life and looks good on top of that. Teeth are flexible and misaligned teeth can be corrected at any age – it only takes a little longer for adults than for our adolescent patients.

METAL BRACKETS

Metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable. Brackets are bonded to the teeth, arch wires are placed through the brackets and small elastic bands secure the wire in the bracket. Tightening the arch wire gradually move the teeth into proper position.

These braces are adjusted every 4-6 weeks to bring about the desired results. Although a little discomfort is expected during the treatment, today’s braces are more comfortable than ever before. We use the low profile mini bracket series, which are more effective with less discomfort and less lip interferences during the normal activities.

These braces are made of high grade stainless steel which are smaller, lighter and show far less metal than the past.

DAMON BRACKETS

The Damon System uses gentle forces designed to protect the health of your teeth and gums while in treatment. Light force, high technology, shape memory wires move the teeth more efficiently, reducing office visits and treatment times to help you better manage your busy schedule.

This system achieves a smile that is more than straight teeth- it provides a beautiful, natural smile. Studies have shown that a fuller smile, with a wider arch is more attractive. One of the most significant differences from conventional dental braces is the absence of elastic ligature (bands or ties). Self-ligating braces typically are smaller and more aesthetic since a metal door is required to hold wires in place.

The self-ligating braces uses a slide mechanism to hold the archwire, thus reducing the amount of pressure exerted on the teeth.
Both traditional and self ligation (DAMON) braces achieve the same results, but the self ligation style is typically easier to tolerate.

The differences include:
Looks:
With self ligation braces, elastic bands are eliminated and the braces are less obvious in their appearance.

How they work:
While both styles of orthodontic treatment get the same results, the way those results are achieved is different. Traditional braces uses a system in which you return to the orthodontist every four to six weeks to have them tightened for the teeth to move. Self ligation braces work by using tiny spring loaded door to maintain pressure on the archwires. This process applies pressure to the system to gently adjust the teeth to the desired position. Because of the new technology used in self ligation braces, the need for tightening is eliminated frequently.

CLEAR ALIGNERS - INVISALIGN

In addition to conventional orthodontics, we also offer treatment with modern, invisible braces.

All treatment steps are planned in a computer simulation and then implemented in the form of transparent aligners. You switch to a new track every two weeks. In this way, you can comfortably and invisibly achieve a radiant smile with straight teeth.

Advantages of Clear Aligners:
Discreet - Removable - Easy to Clean - Comfortable - Precise - Esthetic.

CERAMIC BRACKETS

Ceramic braces are made of a clear ceramic material, and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, these braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns.

Ceramic braces are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts. These brackets are expensive compared to the regular metal brackets as they are more esthetic
i.e.; they are less conspicuous. They also called tooth colored braces.

PEDIATRIC ORTHODONTICS

Growing kids have abnormal habits like tongue thrusting, thumb sucking, finger sucking, lip biting and more that can alter the jaw shape while growing. Minor or major respiratory problems can also change the shape of the jaws due to constant mouth breathing.

These habits have to be terminated as soon as possible for normal growth. Posterior occlusion (bite) is established when the first 6-year permanent molars erupt. At that time, one can evaluate the 3 dimensional relationships of the occlusion, as well as discover any abnormal shifting of the lower jaw during function. Incisors will begin to erupt and problems can be detected such as crowding, adverse habits, overbites, open bites, and some facial asymmetries.

When treatment is necessary, the orthodontist can guide the growth of the jaws and guide the erupting permanent teeth. For some, a timely screening will lead to significant treatment benefits; for some, an immediate benefit is a parent’s peace of mind. These habits are treated with habit breaking appliances.

HABIT BREAKING APPLIANCES

Habit breaking appliances are specific, custom fabricated appliances which may be removable or fixed and are mostly worn inside the mouth to help a child to discontinue a detrimental thumb or finger sucking habit or to improve a bad tongue posture which may cause undesirable teeth position and affect growth of facial bones. These appliances are worn until the child completely stops a particular habit. These appliances can be used separately or along with fixed braces.

What are the benefits of early treatment?
For those patients who have clear indications for early intervention, early treatment presents the opportunity to:
• Lower risk of trauma to protruded upper incisors.
• Influence jaw growth in a positive manner
• Harmonize width of the dental arches
• Improve eruption patterns of permanent teeth
• Correct harmful oral habits
• Improve esthetics and self-esteem
• Simplify and/or shorten treatment time for corrective orthodontics
• Reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth
• Improve some speech problems
• Preserve or gain space for erupting permanent teeth.

GROWTH MODULATION THERAPY

• Superior facial esthetics
• Greater ability to modify the growth process
• Fewer extractions
• Reduction in the duration and difficulty of subsequent therapy
• Improvement in patients self concept.

Meet Our Orthodontist to discuss about Growth Modulation Therapy.

JAW EXPANDERS

Palatal expanders create more space in a child's mouth by gradually widening the upper jaw. Although this may sound scary, it's really quite easy — both to do and to tolerate. That's because the upper jaw actually develops as two separate halves that don't completely fuse together until sometime after puberty. Before that happens, the two bones can gently be separated and stabilized over a period of several months.

The three situations that most commonly call for maxillary expansion are:

Crossbite — When a child's upper jaw is too narrow to fit correctly with the lower jaw, the back top teeth will bite inside of the lower teeth instead of outside. This can be corrected by expanding the upper jaw.

Crowding — Even before all of a child's permanent (adult) teeth come in, we can tell when there will not be enough room to accommodate them. Widening the upper jaw can create the necessary space without the need for tooth extractions.

Impacted Teeth — When a tooth that hasn't come in (erupted) yet and is blocked by other teeth, widening the upper jaw can allow it to erupt into proper position on its own. This most often happens with canine or eye teeth — the pointier ones located directly under the eyes.

Expanding the upper jaw has other benefits: It can broaden the smile in an aesthetically pleasing way, it can limit the number of teeth that need to be removed to create space and can also improve breathing. And it can shorten overall orthodontic treatment time (the amount of time your child will need to wear braces).

FACIAL ORTHOPEDIC APPLIANCES

These group of appliances makes use of the growth of the young children. The severe protrusion of either upper or lower jaw may be due to an excessive growth of one jaw compared to the other or can be due to the retarded growth of one jaw compared to the other jaw or can be due to a combination of these two phenomenas.

Orthodontist uses functional appliance / growth modulation appliances to treat young children and teenagers with a large protrusion (sticking-out teeth). It is important to correct a large protrusion to minimize the risk of a traumatic injury to the upper front teeth and to improve their self confidence during their young school days.

It works by pushing on the teeth, with a gentle force that is created when placing it in the mouth and closing the teeth together.
A functional appliance is custom-made to fit over the teeth. It can be easily inserted and removed for cleaning and meals.

REMOVABLE APPLIANCES

Removable appliances are not as precise as braces, which is why they are only used to move one tooth or a small group of teeth. We have used appliance therapy on many children and a few adults with minimal misalignment of their teeth. Patients are required to wear their appliance all the time during therapy and come in for regular observation and adjustment visits. Therapy can take anywhere from
6-18 months.

Our consultant orthodontist can screen your child as early as age seven to see if they may require braces in the future. Sometimes he may choose to have your child wear an appliance before all the adult teeth come in to improve eruption patterns and jaw alignment. This is called "Interceptive Orthodontics".

Children may or may not require braces after wearing the appliance; it just depends on the complexity of the case and the growth pattern of your child's teeth and jaw. Modern technology with myobraces may involve interceptive treatment starting as young as 3.

ORTHODONTIC RETAINERS

Retainers help keep teeth in the right place after you have completed braces or appliance therapy.

Removable retainers are made of a pink colored acrylic material and attach to your teeth like an appliance would. Some patients are required to wear these all the time, while others only have to wear them at night while they sleep.

Fixed retainers are a wire that is attached to the inside of your teeth permanently. Having a fixed wire, makes flossing difficult, and requires extra care and time with cleaning.

Clear/”Essix™ Retainer are manufactured from a thin and clear plastic material that hugs the teeth snugly. It is easily removed, comfortable to wear, and is almost invisible.

LINGUAL ORTHODONTICS

Lingual braces have the same components as conventional braces, but they’re fixed to the back of your teeth, on the tongue — or lingual — side of the teeth. Because they’re behind your teeth, they’re nearly invisible.

TEMPORO MANDIBULAR JOINT DISORDERS - TMD

Temporo mandibular joint (TMJ) disease and disorders refer to a complex and poorly understood set of conditions, manifested by pain in the area of the jaw and associated muscles and limitations in the ability to make the normal movements of speech, facial expression, eating, chewing and swallowing.

The conventional occlusal splint therapy is a much safer and effective mode of a conservative line of therapy in comparison to the surgical therapy for temporo mandibular joint disorders (TMD).

Our Orthodontist will be able to advice you suitable TMD Therapy after clinical examination.

IMPLANT ORTHODONTICS

Micro-implants are a miniature screw , also called mini-screws that are placed in the jaw to serve as an anchor for moving specific teeth in a very controlled way. They can eliminate or reduce the use of headgear, springs and elastics and promote faster and more efficient treatment than conventional appliances.

The micro-implant is made of Titanium and is placed under topical and/or local anesthesia. Our Orthodontist makes sure the insertion or removal of micro-implants is almost painless. (Mini Implants)

Advantages of use of micro-implants in Orthodontics includes:
• Implants turn complicated situations into simple ones.
• No need for a headgear
• Treatment duration can be reduced dramatically in half.
• We have a high success rate using this technique.

Our Orthodontist / Specialist Dentist incorporates advanced treatment options such as Implant Orthodontics, currently present all over Doha.
